Welcome to AASWales

Welcome to Appropriate Adult Services for South Wales.

Our team of experienced Appropriate Adults work to ensure that the rights of vulnerable individuals are explained and met during the process of police interview.

While the NAAN guidelines suggest a maximum response time of two hours, we endeavor to respond within one hour of referral.

She may be guilty, She may not. Our job is to ensure she is treated fairly and justly

We currently cover the South Wales, Gwent and Newport Police authority areas. We work closely with police officers and solicitors as independent observers to ensure a fair, just and smooth interviewing process, as specified in PACE.

An appropriate adult should be someone who is completely independent of the police. Professional Appropriate Adults should have a sound understanding and experience of dealing with juveniles, vulnerable adults and mentally disordered individuals.

AASWales is a professional body of such people who provide an effective Appropriate Adult Service. Thus helping to eliminate unnecessary delays while detainee's in custody are awaiting interview, relieving stress on detainee's and allowing a smooth and fair interview process / custody period.
